A good complexion is the first thing many people notice in an ordinary girl. I always hoped to have good skin - at least skin that was clear and smooth. Unfortunately, my skin is a mix of oily and dry regions, and I've have acne evr since I became a high school student, even until now. While it always cleared up with time, each bout with acne left me with a few new pits and scars. Getting rid of the marks has been a constant, if tangential, quest of my life. What Is a Scar? When the skin is injured, a wound is formed.
It can be caused by mechanical injuries (e.g.: cuts, stabs, bruises or bites), by heat (e.g.
: burns or scalds) or by chemical injuries (e.g.: acid burns). Complete healing is possible in case of internal organs. But in case of skin wounds, the body can only repair the injury and the result is a scar. What are the different types of scars? Atrophic, Hypertrophic & Keloids.
Atrophic scars form below the level of the surrounding skin. Hypertrophic scare are bulged and projected scars above the level of the surrounding skin. These are especially common when wound is not protected.
Keloids tend to form long after the wound has healed. These are due to massive overproduction of connective tissue fibres, which continue to grow over the wound and onto healthy skin like the claws of the crab. Ice Pick Scars Ice pick scars are named such because they are similar in shape to what you would see if you attacked a piece of wood with an ice pick: shallow or deep pitting with steep sides and jagged edges. Severe cases of ice pick scarring are often referred to as 'depressed fibrotic scarring'.
They are most commonly found on the cheeks. Rolling Scars Rolling scars are the result of tissue damage beneath the skin, and have the appearance of a rolling hillside; hence the name. Because these scars are the result of tissue damage beneath the skin, resurfacing treatments like dermabrasion and lasers will not work, instead they are usually treated with subcision (explained in more detail in the next section). These are most commonly found on the cheeks and forehead. Preventing Scars Acne scars can be prevented through a program of active treatment and self-control.
One of the worst things you can do to pimples is to pick them. Some people try to squeeze or remove blackheads or whiteheads but this is the worst thing that you can do. Not only will the bacteria which causes acne spread, the skin can be damaged which leads to permanent scarring. Take the fresh juice of lemon and dip some cotton wool in it.
Pat your face with the cotton and let it dry. Some people may find the lemon juice irritating. In that case, you can dilute it in some water or rose-water. Let it dry for 15-20 minutes and wash your face with water after that. Do this at least four times a week and you will find considerable change. A popular homemade remedy for removing acne marks is to make a paste of apple and honey.
Make the apple paste first and then add 4-6 drops of honey. Apply this mask on your face. Wash off after 15 minutes. This will tighten pores and make your complexion light.
